What Is the Market Pricing Into $UNI's Latest Rally?

    Source: Artemis

Uniswap has staged a noticeable recovery over the past two months, with $UNI rising from around $2.6 to a high of $4.3. However, Uniswap's trading volume fell by roughly 56% over the same period, suggesting that this rally was not directly driven by higher trading activity.

Instead, the market appears to be assigning a premium to the improved value-capture mechanism following the activation of the v4 Protocol Fee.

v4 now accounts for close to half of Uniswap's total trading volume. With the v4 Protocol Fee going live on July 27, the value-capture logic around this volume has become much clearer. Previously, v4 could generate significant trading activity without directly accruing value to $UNI. That is now beginning to change.

At the same time, RWA activity from Robinhood Chain and Meme trading generated by various launchpads could further expand Uniswap's overall volume, translating into higher protocol revenue and more UNI burn.

So the key question going forward is not simply whether Uniswap's trading volume can recover, but whether it can establish a clearer positive feedback loop:

More trading volume → More protocol revenue → More UNI burn → Stronger token value accrual → Higher valuation for UNI

UNI Buyback & Burn: v4 Finally Closes the Value-Capture Loop

    Source: Dune Analytics

Since Uniswap activated the v4 Fee Switch, the pace of UNI buybacks and burns has accelerated significantly. Based on the rolling annualized burn rate over the past 30 days, UNI is currently being burned at an annualized pace of approximately 16.5 million tokens.

There is one important distinction here: Uniswap does not directly use protocol revenue to buy UNI from the market.

Protocol fees first accumulate in the actual assets generated by trading, such as ETH, USDC, or other tokens. These assets are deposited into TokenJars deployed across different chains.

Once the value accumulated inside a TokenJar becomes sufficiently large, third-party participants, typically searchers, would have an economic incentive to extract those assets.

However, extracting the assets is not free. Searchers must pay a fixed amount of UNI in exchange:

    • 4,000 UNI on Ethereum Mainnet
    • 2,000 UNI on L2s

The UNI paid by the searcher is then permanently burned. Source: Uniswap Docs

After the transaction is completed, the searcher takes the assets accumulated in the TokenJar, while the UNI they paid for is permanently removed from circulation.

This means UNI burn does not happen continuously or in real time as protocol revenue is generated. Instead, burns occur in batches. A searcher will only execute the transaction when the value of assets inside the TokenJar exceeds the cost of acquiring the required UNI + gas costs.

As a result, the pace of UNI burn is primarily driven by two variables:

    • Higher Protocol Fees → TokenJar fills faster → Burns are triggered more frequently
    • Lower UNI price → Lower cost to acquire the fixed amount of UNI → Lower threshold for triggering a burn

Mechanically, higher trading volume and greater Protocol Fee generation should therefore increase the frequency of UNI burns. Meanwhile, the UNI price itself determines when each burn becomes economically viable.

UNI currently has approximately 624 million tokens in circulation, with the token supply fully unlocked. If the current burn rate were sustained, roughly 2.6% of circulating supply would be burned annually.

Fee Switch Across Different Versions: Which Trading Volume Actually Converts Into UNI Burn?

The real question is whether the current buyback-and-burn rate can be sustained, or even increase over time.

To answer that, we first need to understand how the Fee Switch works across different versions of Uniswap, and which types of trading volume can actually translate into protocol revenue and UNI burn.

When a user executes a swap, they pay a Pool Trading Fee, which historically went entirely to LPs. The Fee Switch simply redirects a portion of that fee from LPs to the protocol, which can then ultimately be converted into UNI buyback and burn.

Importantly, the total fee paid by users does not increase. The Fee Switch is fundamentally a redistribution of trading fees between LPs and the protocol.

This also means that trading volume cannot be directly equated with protocol revenue.

For example, the same $1 billion of trading volume occurring in a 0.01% stablecoin pool versus a 1% long-tail asset pool can generate protocol revenue, and therefore UNI burn, which differs dozens of times. Source: Uniswap Docs

v1 did not have a Fee Switch. Under v2, the total fee is fixed at 30 bps. LPs receive 25 bps, while the protocol receives 5 bps, equivalent to 16.67% of the total trading fee.

Under v3, protocol fee sharing depends on the pool's fee tier:

    • 0.01% and 0.05% pools: protocol receives 25%
    • 0.30% and 1% pools: protocol receives 16.67%

    Source: Uniswap Docs

Under v4, pools can broadly be divided into three categories, each with slightly different fee mechanics:

    • Normal / Static Pools: The closest equivalent to standard v3 pools. The LP fee is set when the pool is created, while the Protocol Fee is calculated according to v4's dynamic fee curve.
    • CCA Pools: Created through Uniswap's Continuous Clearing Auction. Bidders submit budgets and maximum bid prices, tokens are released progressively, and trades clear at stage-specific prices. Once the auction ends, proceeds are deployed into v4 liquidity at the final clearing price. The matching mechanism differs from a standard pool, but the Protocol Fee follows the same fee curve as Static Pools.
    • Aggregator Hook: A specialized Hook designed to aggregate external onchain liquidity and route orders to other DEXs or liquidity venues. Because these trades do not rely directly on Uniswap's own LP liquidity, the dynamic fee curve does not apply. Instead, a fixed Protocol Fee in basis points is charged.

The key change in v4 is that the Protocol Fee is determined through a dynamic fee curve, capped at 10 bps.

At common LP fee tiers such as 1 bp, 5 bps, and 30 bps, the protocol's share is broadly similar to v3. Once the LP fee rises above approximately 83.34 bps, however, the 10 bps cap begins to bind, meaning the protocol's percentage share of total fees declines as the LP fee increases.

The Aggregator Hook follows a separate fee structure:

    • Default: 10 bps
    • Stablecoin pairs: 3 bps
    • Base exception: 3 bps and 1 bp, respectively

Based on this structure, the v4 Fee Switch does not materially increase protocol revenue per dollar of trading volume in the major fee tiers. The real incremental value comes from bringing more v4 trading volume into the protocol's value-capture mechanism.

Therefore, whether UNI burn can continue growing will depend heavily on whether v4's share of Uniswap trading volume continues to increase.

However, v4 is not necessarily more attractive from a protocol-revenue perspective in higher-fee pools.Take a 1% pool as an example. Under v3, the protocol can capture approximately 16.67 bps, while v4 is capped at 10 bps, meaning protocol revenue per dollar of volume is roughly 40% lower.

This matters because 1% pools are commonly used for Memecoins and other long-tail assets. More precisely, v4's Fee Curve is therefore better suited to low-fee, high-turnover trading pools, while capturing relatively less value from high-fee, speculative long-tail pools.

The Next Phase of v4 Growth Depends on Hooks

Whether v4 can continue gaining market share ultimately depends on whether Hooks can keep creating new use cases and generating real trading volume.

Hooks are the biggest structural innovation introduced by v4. They transform Uniswap from a relatively standardized AMM into a programmable liquidity infrastructure layer.

There are currently around 65,000 Hooks deployed on Uniswap v4, and several important categories are beginning to demonstrate real adoption: Source: Dune Analytics

    • Token Launch / Meme: Clanker and Doppler integrate token issuance, price discovery, and automated liquidity deployment, directly routing new-asset trading activity into v4.
    • MEV / LP Optimization: Angstrom and Kyber FairFlow aim to reduce toxic flow and recapture arbitrage value, improving capital efficiency for LPs.
    • Dynamic Fees: Aegis automatically adjusts trading fees based on volatility and market conditions, helping optimize LP returns.
    • Yield Optimization: DualPool allows idle LP assets to earn yield inside ERC-4626 vaults and only pulls liquidity back into v4 when trades occur. This allows LPs to earn both external yield and trading fees.
    • RWA / Permissioned Pools: Uniswap has introduced its own v4 Permissioning Hook standard, embedding requirements such as KYC, investor eligibility, and geographic restrictions directly into pool execution. This creates infrastructure for Tokenized Securities, RWAs, and institutional liquidity.

If Clanker and Doppler continue expanding Meme and token-launch volume, while RWA, institutional trading, MEV optimization, and capital-efficiency applications such as DualPool begin scaling, v4 could establish another flywheel:

More Hook applications → More third-party order flow → More v4 volume → More Protocol Fees → More UNI burn

Uniswap does not necessarily need to own all of the frontend traffic itself. As long as it becomes the underlying liquidity and settlement layer for a growing number of third-party applications, it can continue capturing value from their trading activity.

Robinhood Chain: The Largest Near-Term Incremental Driver of UNI Burn

    Source: Dune Analytics

Another major near-term catalyst is Uniswap's deployment on Robinhood Chain.

Robinhood Chain currently supports relatively active Meme and RWA trading, while Uniswap dominates AMM activity on the chain.

By version, v3 still leads with approximately $251.3 million in daily trading volume, compared with around $166.3 million for v4.

This means Robinhood Chain is not only bringing incremental trading volume to Uniswap, it is also expanding the revenue base that can potentially be captured through Protocol Fees.

Its contribution to UNI burn has been even more notable.

At one point recently, Robinhood Chain generated approximately 60,000 UNI in daily burns, significantly above Ethereum and Base, making it one of the largest current sources of UNI burn.

Why Does Robinhood Generate More UNI Burn Despite Lower Trading Volume?

The comparison between Robinhood Chain and Ethereum illustrates exactly why: Trading volume ≠ Protocol revenue

It also explains why Robinhood Chain has recently contributed disproportionately to UNI burn.

Looking at the Top 10 pools on each chain over the past 30 days:

    • Ethereum: approximately $11.36 billion in trading volume, generating around $654,000 in protocol fees.
    • Robinhood Chain: only around $4.49 billion in trading volume, but generating approximately $1.22 million in protocol fees.

In other words, Ethereum generated roughly 2.5x more trading volume, yet only 54% as much protocol revenue as Robinhood Chain.

The difference is not primarily driven by activity levels. It comes from the fee-tier composition of that activity. Source: Uniswap

Ethereum's highest-volume pools are heavily concentrated in ultra-low-fee stablecoin trading.

Four v4 stablecoin pools charge just 0.0005%--0.0008%, yet account for approximately 57.5% of the Top 10 trading volume while contributing only 2.0% of protocol fees.

    The clearest example is:

    • ETH/USDC v3 · 0.05%: around $2.4 billion in volume → approximately $300,000 in protocol fees
    • USDC/USDT v4 · 0.0007%: around $2.2 billion in volume → only approximately $5,077 in protocol fees

The two pools process almost the same amount of trading volume, but their protocol revenue differs by roughly 59x. Source: Uniswap

Robinhood Chain has almost the opposite composition.

Three 1% fee pools --- CASHCAT/ETH, PIPEDOG/ETH, and PONS/ETH --- account for only around 12.7% of Top 10 trading volume, but contribute approximately 77.8% of protocol fees.

These tokens have also been among the more actively traded Memecoins on pools.trade最近。

As a result, even though Robinhood Chain's overall trading volume is significantly lower than Ethereum's, its concentration in high-fee Meme trading produces a much higher effective take rate, which in turn drives more UNI burn.

The more accurate way to think about UNI burn is therefore not simply in terms of aggregate trading volume, but rather:

Which fee tiers does the volume occur in? Which Uniswap version is being used? And has the Protocol Fee been activated for those pools?

Robinhood Chain has recently generated more burn primarily because a larger share of its trading activity comes from high-fee Meme pools. Source: Dune Analytics

Memecoin pools naturally tend to use higher fee tiers, with some Pool Fees reaching 1%. As a result, every dollar of Meme trading volume can generate substantially more Protocol Fee revenue and UNI burn.

At the moment, Robinhood Chain's activity is still driven primarily by Memecoins, ETH/stablecoin pairs, and other assets. Tokenized Stocks account for only around 5% of total trading volume.

This also raises questions around sustainability.

Memecoins can be highly effective as a cold-start mechanism for activity on a new chain, but they may not sustain elevated trading volumes over the long term.

If Meme activity declines before RWA or tokenized-equity trading can take over as the next major source of demand, Robinhood Chain's total trading volume --- and therefore its contribution to UNI burn --- could decline materially.

Uniswap's RWA Opportunity Is Still at an Early Stage

    Source: Blockworks Research

Tokenized assets still represent only a small portion of trading activity on Uniswap.

Compared with L1/L2 tokens and stablecoins, Tokenized Assets currently contribute only around 5% of overall trading volume.

If the long-term view is that RWAs will see significantly broader adoption onchain, then today's trading activity remains extremely early.

There is, however, an important practical challenge.

The explicit cost of trading traditional US equities is already extremely low, typically ranging from zero to only a few basis points. Platforms such as Robinhood and IBKR Lite even offer zero-commission trading. As a result, if Tokenized Stocks on Uniswap trade through pools charging 5 bps, 30 bps, or even 1%, they are unlikely to have a clear advantage purely on transaction cost.

The real value proposition of Tokenized Stocks is more likely to come from capabilities that traditional brokerages struggle to provide, such as: 24/7 trading, global accessibility, and DeFi composability.

Therefore, whether RWAs can become the next major source of trading-volume growth for Uniswap will depend less on whether onchain trading is cheaper, and more on whether these additional capabilities are compelling enough to create meaningful new user demand.
