Meta to Pay $18 Billion for Youth Online Safety Initiative
Meta Platforms has agreed to limit the daily online time for users under 18 to 2 hours, pending court approval for the settlement. Over the next 10 years, it will pay $18 billion for youth online safety initiatives, including $12.7 billion to various states, with an additional $5.3 billion contingent on certain conditions. The company will set aside $10 billion in legal fees in the third quarter of 2026 and will implement youth protection measures on Instagram and Facebook for a duration of 10 years. Meta is urging other social media platforms to adopt similar safety measures. Meta's stock price turned negative after previously rising over 3%.
