Russia Plans to Extend Diesel Export Ban Until October 1, 2026

By: delo.ua|2026/08/25 14:47:35

The Russian government is discussing the extension of the ban on diesel fuel exports due to Ukraine's attacks on oil refineries. Russian authorities are considering extending the restrictions for another month, until October 1, 2026. Previously, there were reports of a plan to maintain the ban until the end of the current year. The Russian Ministry of Energy has not commented on these plans. Extending the embargo could exacerbate the fuel shortage in the global market, as Ukraine was one of the leading suppliers of diesel before the attacks, accounting for about 10% of the global market. Since the beginning of August, Ukraine has conducted 18 attacks on Russian oil refineries, which is a record. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak acknowledged the issues with gasoline supplies but stated that there are sufficient diesel reserves in the domestic market. In St. Petersburg, limits on gasoline sales have been introduced, similar to those in Moscow, and several major oil companies have restricted the sale of automotive gasoline.
