OpenAI's GPT-5.6 has reduced the total cost per task by approximately one-third. This model has cut output tokens and processing time to less than half compared to Claude Fable 5. The cost comparison is based on the expenses incurred to complete specific tasks, which differs from simple API pricing. Anthropic has announced the prices for Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, respectively. OpenAI has reduced the price of GPT-5.6 Luna by 80% and Terra by 20%. Chinese AI models remain competitive at public pricing, with DeepSeek offering $0.27 per million input tokens and $1.10 per million output tokens. Z.AI has announced the price for GLM-5.1 at $1.40 per million input tokens and $4.40 per million output tokens. Price comparisons may be distorted depending on performance, speed, and the nature of the tasks, and actual usage data shows that while Anthropic accounted for 61% of total spending, its token share was only 32%. The AI cost competition is expected to continue considering both the price per million tokens and the actual costs of completing tasks.
