More than 80 attacks on cryptocurrency holders have been reported in France since the beginning of the year, amid a rising trend of crime related to kidnappings. Authorities have made numerous arrests, and most attacks have resulted in failed attempts thanks to the vigilance of the victims or the swift intervention of law enforcement. However, a couple in their thirties in the Somme has been targeted three times due to their purchase of a house previously owned by retirees whose personal data was compromised and sold on the dark web. The assailants, unrelated to the crypto sector, attempted to infiltrate their home, resulting in a violent assault during the second intrusion, where one of the victims was bound and beaten live on Snapchat. The attacks are attributed to three distinct criminal groups that used an outdated file from the dark web. The sentences imposed on the attackers, of up to three years in prison, do not ease the couple's concerns, who are considering selling their house quickly.
