TSMC's 1.4nm P1 Plant in Central Taiwan to Begin Mass Production in Second Half of Next Year
The Central Taiwan Science Park Administration has confirmed that TSMC's expansion of its 1.4nm plant is accelerating. The first P1 plant has completed its steel structure and is expected to begin trial operations in April next year, with mass production slated for the second half of next year, ahead of the original schedule set for 2028. TSMC has applied to set up two temporary offices at the site, which are expected to be completed by April next year, with over 5,400 operational and outsourced personnel expected to move in. The second phase of the Central Taiwan Science Park broke ground last October, planning for four 1.4nm plants, with nearly 2,000 workers working overtime to expedite construction. The P1 plant is currently undergoing floor and exterior wall construction, with the plant's construction expected to be completed by early next year. The foundation work for the P2 plant has already begun, with completion expected in October next year. The P3 plant has obtained its construction permit, while the P4 plant is in the application process, with a planned six-month delay. The P3 plant is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2028, and the P4 plant in the fourth quarter of the same year. After the P2 plant is completed in the second half of next year, an additional 1,000 operational personnel will be added, bringing the total number of employees across all four new plants in the second phase to between 9,000 and 10,000.
