Firo hard fork activates soon, users must upgrade to v0.14.18.0

The Firo hard fork is set to activate at block 1,371,000, approximately 153 blocks away, requiring wallet users and network operators to install software to address an August vulnerability in the Spark transaction system. The activation is expected around 10 a.m. UTC on Sept. 4. Users, including full-node and masternode operators, miners, and exchanges, must upgrade to version 0.14.18.0 to remain compatible with the network post-activation. The vulnerability in Spark could allow forged coins under specific conditions, although it did not compromise wallet security or affect single-input transactions. As a temporary measure, version 0.14.17.2 limited Spark spending to one input, which weakened privacy but protected supply integrity. The upcoming version 0.14.18.0 will restore normal multi-input spending and introduce a new Chaum V2 proof and transaction format. Existing Spark coins and balances remain valid, and no migration of funds is necessary. Firo plans to release a full technical disclosure after the fork.
