Ethereum Sets New Record High for Wallet Creation, with Non-Zero Address Count Reaching 172.9 Million
BlockBeats News, January 14th: Despite ETH's price still being in a consolidation phase, the number of new Ethereum wallets created hit a historical high last week, with network adoption seeing a strong rebound. An average of 327,000 new Ethereum wallets were created every day in the past week, reaching a record-breaking over 393,000 new wallets on Sunday, the highest single-day record in history. The total number of non-zero Ethereum wallets (addresses holding some ETH) reached a historic high of 172.9 million.
The Fusaka upgrade for Ethereum, launched in early December 2025, optimized on-chain data processing, significantly reducing the cost for Layer 2 networks to submit data to the mainnet, making using Ethereum cheaper and more user-friendly, especially when interacting with rollups and dApps. At the same time, Ethereum stablecoin activity surged, with a record-breaking total stablecoin transfer volume exceeding $80 trillion in Q4 2025, indicating Ethereum is being used for actual payments and settlements rather than purely speculation. Santiment pointed out: "This kind of real financial activity often attracts new participants to create wallets for sending, receiving, or holding stablecoins and other tokens."
