CME Group plans to list two futures products that track the rental costs of graphics processing units (GPUs) on the New York Mercantile Exchange on October 5. The two products must pass regulatory review before trading can begin. The products are named 'H100 Rental Index Futures' and 'B200 Rental Index Futures', which track the hourly rental cost indices of NVIDIA's H100 and Blackwell's B200 GPUs, respectively. Each contract corresponds to one month of GPU rental fees. CME Group aims to transform this market into standardized tradable products, helping AI developers and cloud service providers hedge against fluctuations in infrastructure costs. The compute futures will be settled based on rental indices at specific points in time, similar to crude oil or electricity futures. These products are being launched amid increased volatility in GPU rental prices due to a surge in AI infrastructure investments. Both products require regulatory approval, and the launch schedule may vary depending on the review results.
